1931 Print Camel Cigarette Machine R J Reynolds Tobacco Smoking Foil FZ1 XAF6 Jerry LewisThis is an original 1931 halftone print of a machine at the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company packaging Camel cigarettes. The machine assembled the cigarettes with foil, wrapping paper and revenue stamps. Tobacco production dates back to the 17th century in the United States, and was originally planted for pipes and snuff. It was a giant cash crop in the southern United States, and saw tremendous growth once the cigarette was invented in the mid 1800s.
